Wonderful Walk

Our Ivanhoe Garden Club co-ordinator of walks, Anna, led a very interesting look at Chelsworth Park in Ivanhoe on May 14 2021. We managed to enjoy cold but clear weather and heard about the local people who established the park and some of its many uses over its long history.

The walk finished with a lovely morning tea.

Thank you to Anna for all of her research.

2021!

Ivanhoe Garden Club Returning!

SUMMER PICNIC: Sunday 31 January 2021

Our President Jeff  has again offered his back garden for the picnic, with barbecue facilities available. This will be a lovely way for members to reconnect and everyone is very welcome. Please contact the club for details.

OPEN GARDENS for 2021

With COVID-19 restrictions, garden visits are the most obvious way members can again see each other and socialise. At its first meeting for the year, the committee will plan the details for these garden visits. A wonderful way for everyone to come together, share garden knowledge and reconnect.

Ivanhoe Garden Club – Going Strong Despite the Current Crisis

Our garden club, like any other community organisation, is hard hit by the current restrictions that limit many aspects of our lives in order to keep us safe.

The Ivanhoe Garden Club has had to cancel meetings and wonderful events and trips that were planned for April, May and June of 2020.  Everyone hopes that very soon we will be back together sharing our gardens and our passion for plants of all kinds. There will be monthly meetings again, and events and trips, there is a lot to look forward to in the Spring.

While we cannot meet the newsletter, Cuttings,  is keeping everyone connected and informed and those who can are sharing via email.   And, we all have even more time for our own gardens. I look forward to hearing about the enjoyment everyone has found in their garden during this time.  I cannot imagine life without mine.

2020 – Events to start the Year!

CLUB SUMMER PICNIC
SUNDAY 2 FEBRUARY

Jeff’s, Eaglemont, from 12.00pm.

We will hope for a nice day to begin our new year – Jeff’s place has a barbecue under shelter, and shade in the garden. The club is providing bread sticks, 3 different salads, mineral water, and fruit to eat as finger food (e.g. grapes, rock melon slices). But please bring your own meat or vegetable patties for the barbecue, plate, cutlery and mug for tea/coffee, plus a folding stool.

Members who enjoy cooking may wish to bring cake to share.

This will be way to begin the year and catch up with fellow members.

AUTUMN BUS TRIP – SUNDAY 19 APRIL

This year the bus trip is the Sunday after Easter, and we will be seeing two quite large outer suburban gardens in Rowville. The first belongs to Tine Grimston, who is a member of the Salvia Study Group, and the second to Maureen and Paul Lucas, active members of the Garden Clubs of Australia, with which we have our insurance and from which we receive a magazine. Paul is an experienced garden photographer, and Maureen is a garden writer, show judge and keen plantsperson. Morning tea will be at Jells Park South, and lunch at the Lysterfield Lake
Reserve, where we have been once before.
Bookings at the February and March monthly club meetings.

Bus Trip April 2018 – A few photos from the day

We had beautiful weather for our bus trip and the day was very enjoyable with many opportunities to look, learn and buy.

The first stop was the Mornington Botanic Rose Garden.

After morning tea with the roses we had a lovely time at Diaco’s nursery.

We then stopped for lunch at the George Pentland Gardens in Frankston.

After a walk around the very green and peaceful park we left for Ballam Park Homestead and Garden where we all had a tour of the home and a stroll around the gardens. Many members also enjoyed afternoon tea in the cafe.

The very old and rather beautiful carob tree at Ballam Park.

A great day was had by everyone.

January Picnic 2018

The first event for 2018 is a summer picnic at Del Cavanagh’s beautiful home on Sunday 28th January. This is always a lovely informal start to the year a chance to catch up and enjoy a garden together.

Members will be notified of the details in the first Cuttings newsletter for the year
