New Meeting Venue for 2024

For our first meeting of 2024 the club will meet at its new venue – the East Ivanhoe Bowling Club. The speaker for the meeting will be Su Laird on Perennials and the meeting will include the usual sales table, raffle, show bench and club library.

About the new venue, President Jeff Leaney said –

“This facility has all we require (and more!). It is all on one level with a large meeting space with polished floor boards, a spacious and well-equipped kitchen, and easily accessible from the car park via a sloping ramp. …We are excited about this move to a new venue and look forward to welcoming you.”

Garden Club Walk – Banyule Flats

Our walk group at the Banyule Flats Cattle Yards

On Saturday April 1st, our wonderful walks leader, Anna Burley, organised a walk for us at the Banyule Flats. Anna also organised the most stunning weather for us with the rain only beginning to threaten as we were leaving.  For many of us, who had not been there for years, the Banyule Flats were a revelation.

The walk was a fantastic follow up to the presentation at our most recent Club meeting from Daphne of the Waringal Conservation Society. On the walk we were able to see a number of the plantings she mentioned. We did a circuit of the swamp and saw a number of Kangaroos and many different birds.

Anna had done her research well and was able to share with us a great deal of knowledge about the area and its history, in particular the relationship to the Heidelberg Artists School and details about the Banyule Homestead.

The walk  ended with a welcome cup of tea and lovely cake.

Looking forward to our next walk!

New Venue for Ivanhoe Garden Club!

The first meeting of 2023 will be on Tuesday 28 February at the new Bellfield Community Hub in Perkins Ave, off Oriel Rd (just one street north of Banksia St) which is easily seen from our old meeting venue at Bellfield Community Centre.  By member request, meetings will commence at 7.30 pm. There is a little parallel parking beside the entrance, which is on the side of the building facing Oriel Rd. Much more parking is available to the rear (south) side of the building.

Committee members provide supper for this meeting.

The Ivanhoe Garden Club had a wonderful life at the Bellfield Community Centre and despite the sadness at leaving this beautiful community venue we look forward to a fantastic future in our brand new meeting space

Wonderful Walk

Our Ivanhoe Garden Club co-ordinator of walks, Anna, led a very interesting look at Chelsworth Park in Ivanhoe on May 14 2021. We managed to enjoy cold but clear weather and heard about the local people who established the park and some of its many uses over its long history.

The walk finished with a lovely morning tea.

Thank you to Anna for all of her research.

2021!

Ivanhoe Garden Club Returning!

SUMMER PICNIC: Sunday 31 January 2021

Our President Jeff  has again offered his back garden for the picnic, with barbecue facilities available. This will be a lovely way for members to reconnect and everyone is very welcome. Please contact the club for details.

OPEN GARDENS for 2021

With COVID-19 restrictions, garden visits are the most obvious way members can again see each other and socialise. At its first meeting for the year, the committee will plan the details for these garden visits. A wonderful way for everyone to come together, share garden knowledge and reconnect.

Ivanhoe Garden Club – Going Strong Despite the Current Crisis

Our garden club, like any other community organisation, is hard hit by the current restrictions that limit many aspects of our lives in order to keep us safe.

The Ivanhoe Garden Club has had to cancel meetings and wonderful events and trips that were planned for April, May and June of 2020.  Everyone hopes that very soon we will be back together sharing our gardens and our passion for plants of all kinds. There will be monthly meetings again, and events and trips, there is a lot to look forward to in the Spring.

While we cannot meet the newsletter, Cuttings,  is keeping everyone connected and informed and those who can are sharing via email.   And, we all have even more time for our own gardens. I look forward to hearing about the enjoyment everyone has found in their garden during this time.  I cannot imagine life without mine.

2020 – Events to start the Year!

CLUB SUMMER PICNIC
SUNDAY 2 FEBRUARY

Jeff’s, Eaglemont, from 12.00pm.

We will hope for a nice day to begin our new year – Jeff’s place has a barbecue under shelter, and shade in the garden. The club is providing bread sticks, 3 different salads, mineral water, and fruit to eat as finger food (e.g. grapes, rock melon slices). But please bring your own meat or vegetable patties for the barbecue, plate, cutlery and mug for tea/coffee, plus a folding stool.

Members who enjoy cooking may wish to bring cake to share.

This will be way to begin the year and catch up with fellow members.

AUTUMN BUS TRIP – SUNDAY 19 APRIL

This year the bus trip is the Sunday after Easter, and we will be seeing two quite large outer suburban gardens in Rowville. The first belongs to Tine Grimston, who is a member of the Salvia Study Group, and the second to Maureen and Paul Lucas, active members of the Garden Clubs of Australia, with which we have our insurance and from which we receive a magazine. Paul is an experienced garden photographer, and Maureen is a garden writer, show judge and keen plantsperson. Morning tea will be at Jells Park South, and lunch at the Lysterfield Lake
Reserve, where we have been once before.
Bookings at the February and March monthly club meetings.
