Garden Club Walk – Banyule Flats

On Saturday April 1st, our wonderful walks leader, Anna Burley, organised a walk for us at the Banyule Flats. Anna also organised the most stunning weather for us with the rain only beginning to threaten as we were leaving.  For many of us, who had not been there for years, the Banyule Flats were a revelation.

The walk was a fantastic follow up to the presentation at our most recent Club meeting from Daphne of the Waringal Conservation Society. On the walk we were able to see a number of the plantings she mentioned. We did a circuit of the swamp and saw a number of Kangaroos and many different birds.

Anna had done her research well and was able to share with us a great deal of knowledge about the area and its history, in particular the relationship to the Heidelberg Artists School and details about the Banyule Homestead.

The walk  ended with a welcome cup of tea and lovely cake.

Looking forward to our next walk!
